John Pothin has more than 30 years of experience across several industry sectors with a mix of Executive Search, C-level operating roles in Human Resources, and Board Advisory.
Based in the New York office, John’s focus at Ward Howell is in the consumer, technology and industrial practice areas. He also specializes in placing senior executives in private equity backed businesses.
His recent search experience includes work as Managing Director, Human Resources for Patriarch Partners, a global private equity ﬁrm in New York, with investments in more than 70 businesses across 14 industry sectors. In his time at Patriarch, John placed more than 250 C-Level executives in leadership roles across the portfolio companies as well as specialists at the holding company.
In his earlier corporate career, John held several senior global leadership roles in Human Resources. With the GTECH Corporation, a Global Technology and Gaming Business, he was the Global SVP of Human Resources. He went on to serve as a Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Hasbro, Inc., a global consumer products, branded play, and entertainment business.
His corporate career was preceded by his service as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army between 1983 and 2003. In his last assignment, John served as the Executive Officer to the Superintendent of the United States Military Academy, at West Point.
John earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in General Engineering and a Master of Arts Degree in Leadership Development from the United States Military Academy. His additional and continuing educational coursework includes programs through the Harvard Business School, the Darden Business School, Babson College, the Tuck Business School, and the Center for Creative Leadership.
